Eurekalert is a very good source for science news that is updated daily. Sponsored by the AAAS it provides news from universities, professional societies, journals, and other news sources. A variety of other good topics and links are provided.The APNet is the homepage of the Academic Press. This site can be used to browse a very large number of journals.
The National Academy of Sciences has a useful news site as well. The stories are periodic rather than daily news releases.
The National Science Foundation (NSF) has a number of interesting topics.
