College of Sciences - Undergraduate Research Poster Competition Information and Entry

Event Day Schedule for Student Participants:
April 4, 2008

  • 12:00 to 2:00 p.m. Hang poster
  • 4:00 to 5:30 Students must be at their poster to discuss their research with competition judges and public
  • 5:30 p.m. Award Ceremony

Participant Guidelines

1. ENTRY DEADLINE IS FEBRUARY 29. Entries must be submitted electronically by 5 p.m. February 29, 2008. Applicants will be notified of acceptance by March 7.

 2. Participants must have a major and/or research advisor in the College of Sciences. In order to receive awards participants must be a College of Sciences major.

3. Work presented must have been performed in the last year.

4. Acceptance will depend on your abstract addressing a research question and/or hypothesis driven research.

5. In rare instances, undergraduates have research partners who equally share the work on a research project. If you and a research partner are entering together, you must provide your partner's name in Part A of the entry. Your research partner must also submit a separate complete entry form. Winning research that is submitted by two undergraduate researchers will receive a single monetary award.

6. The “abstract submitted with the entry form below must be understandable by a general audience. This abstract is provided to the judges prior to the event. However, a poster that has been prepared with a more technical abstract (perhaps for a professional meeting) is acceptable as a competition entry, but the more general abstract must still be submitted with your application.

7. Students must indicate in Part A of the entry form how much research experience they have had. This must include ALL research experience: INCLUDE ALL WORK IN A RESEARCH LAB AS A STUDENT OR IN ANY OTHER CAPACITY SUCH AS A RESEARCH ASSISTANT OR TECHNOLOGY AIDE, ETC.

8. IF YOUR ABSTRACT CONTAINS ANY GREEK LETTERS OR SYMBOLS PLEASE EMAIL IT AS AN ATTACHMENT TO ltibbals@wsu.edu. Be sure your name is on it. NOTE: You must still submit the entry form below.
