Top 10 Ways to Succeed...
(in Your Math and Science Courses)
1. Visit your professor and TA during their office hours. They set aside these hours to help you.
2. Find free tutoring and study partners at the Gannon-Goldsworthy Study Hall. It is located between Gannon and Goldsworthy Halls on first floor near the front desk and is open Sunday through Thursday, 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.
3. Attend EVERY scheduled class and lab.
4. Set aside at least two hours per class session for outside study.
5. Use
SLIC - the Science Learning
Instructional Center. Science Hall 227
• Sample tests, homework, lecture notes, articles and other
items are available for many science and math courses. Students
check these items out and photo copy them.
• SLIC has three computer labs. Students check in at the main
desk and are assigned to a computer station. Most computers are
connected to the internet with email and web capabilities.
• SLIC also has an LCD player, VCR, and tape players.
6. Use
SALC - the Student Advising and Learning
Center.
• The Student Advising and Learning Center (SALC) provides one-on-one help in all subject areas for $8 per
hour (some financial aid is available). Go to the SALC office in
Lighty 260 or call the tutoring desk at 335-9603. A list
of free tutoring services is available there, too.
7. Live
at a Residence Hall for Math, Science and Engineering Students.
For a real edge, live in coed Gannon-Goldsworthy with other students
taking the same courses you are. Gannon-Goldsworthy has
• a computer lab with 40 computers and the software you need
for your science, math and engineering classes
•special programs
and resources for math, science and engineering students
•
study rooms
• drafting tables
• recreation room, weight
room, big screen TV
• Resident advisors who are math, science,
and engineering majors
• mentoring
• social activities
and sports
• AND it’s near the science buildings.

9. Find out about WSU science internships and scholarships by subscribing to one of our list-serves. Send an e-mail to listproc@listproc.wsu.edu. Your message should be either sub Internships Your Name or sub Scholarships Your Name. Call 509-335-4549 for more information.

help in particular classes try the hints below:
For Biology and Zoology:
• Check the Gannon-Goldsworthy Study Hall for free
tutors.
• Contact teaching assistants or faculty for assistance
during or outside office hours.
• Use the computers in SLIC and arrange for
tutors through SALC.
• The Zoology Club is a place for students
to meet and arrange to help each other.
For Chemistry:
• Chemistry TA’s are available to help
you with chemistry course work at SLIC, Science Hall, room 227.
(Schedule is available at SLIC two weeks after semester begins.)
For Environmental
Science:
• Check with the departmental office in Troy 305 for special
assistance.
• Join the Environmental Science Club. Call
the ESRP office 509-335-8538.
For Genetics
and Microbiology:
• Join the Molecular Biology/Microbiology Club to hear speakers
discuss jobs, careers and find study partners and tutors. Call
Michael Konkel at 509-335-5039.
For Geology:
• Sign up for tutoring for GEOL 101, (fall),
and GEOL 101,102, & 150 (spring). Contact the tutor whose name
will be announced in these classes.
• Join the Geology Club.
It is open to geology minors, majors and graduate students. There
are monthly meetings and activities such as banquets, field trips,
sporting events; and lots of camaraderie and espirit de corps. Call
the Geology office at 335-3009.
For Mathematics:
• Try evening and weekend review sessions
to help brush up on prerequisites such as pre-calculus and trigonometry
(especially the first three weeks of the semester).
• Lessons on basic math concepts are on the

• Work with tutors at Gannon-Goldsworthy
Study Hall for most lower level Math courses.
For Physics:
• The best way to get help is to sign up for the 1 credit HELP section for your course.
