The Land Division Game

There is a plot of land (the brown area) between a road (the black area) and a lake (the blue area), as shown below, that must be divided equitably between 3 players.

Goal:   Get as much land for yourself as you can.

  • You are the purple player and I, your computer, am the red and gray players.
  • We take turns making cuts to divide up the land.
  • A cut is a vertical line that defines a division of the land.
  • When it's your turn, you make your cut by clicking and dragging on the land until your line is positioned where you want it.

Click on the "Player" button to choose when you make your picks:

Player 1 means you make the 1st and 4th cuts and I make the 2nd, 3rd, 5th, and 6th cuts.
Player 2 means you make the 2nd and 5th cuts and I make the 1st, 3rd, 4th, and 6th cuts.
Player 3 means you make the 3rd and 6th cuts and I make the 1st, 2nd, 4th, and 5th cuts.

After all the cuts have been made, each player has defined three regions--each of that player's regions is deemed to be acceptable to that player.   That is, a player would be satisfied with any of the three regions defined by that player's two cuts.

Clicking once in the land after all the cuts have been made displays an assignment of the land where each player receives a portion of land that they think equitable.
